Prevents not cures: Recent research shows that people with sufficient vitamin c levels have fewer colds in cold weather. Once a cold develops, it has no effect if you are not deficient.

None: Most individuals do not need any supplements at all ,with the exceptions of some needing Vitamin D as long as you eat a well balanced diet.A lot of patients think that taking supplement such as vitamins, etc make up for eating a poor diet such as junk food. They do not.In the United States it is very unlikely to need supplements unless pregnant in which need Prenatal vitamins unless your doc says so

A 16-year-old male asked:

How often should I take the vitamin C supplement?

Vitamin C: I recommend people get their Vitamin C from foods- berries, citrus, etc. Oral vitamin C is very safe, so if someone wants to supplement it I won't try to talk them out of it. Usual doses are 500 to 1000mg taken once or twice daily. If too much Vitamin C is taken orally it will harmlessly cause loose stools.
