Either type: Diabetes is not common in 17 year olds. Type 1 diabetes used to be the most common in that age group, occurring in approximately 1 in 400-500 or so. Now, however, with obesity, sedentary life style, growth of minorities and development in third world countries, type 2 diabetes has become more common -- even though we used to refer to it as "adult" diabetes. If you're overweight, try diet and exerc.
