CT scan, biopsy: There are several kinds of pulmonary fibrosis, a ct scan of the chest can help sort them out by the xray patterns of disease seen. Some are associated with connective tissue problems like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis & blood tests can help identify these. Pulmonary function tests help characterize disease severity. Finally if the diagnosis is still in doubt a biopsy of the lung can be done.
