Rarely but possible: A local city pool had a malfunction in its chlorine insertion process that sent more than a dozen "non-asthmatic " people to the hospital with bronchospasm. They all cleared with treatment. Bronchospasm is a normal reflex that protects the sensitive lung tissue from such agents. Asthmatics just don't have enough balancing chemicals to reverse it when irritants are gone.
