Asthma vs panic: Asthma attacks are due to allergic triggers setting off an inflammatory response in the lungs, narrowing breathing pathways. Panic attacks are due to emotional triggers, often associated with hyperventilation and a feeling of difficulty breathing. They are also associated with dizziness and numbness and tingling of the extremities and around the mouth.
