A member asked:

Can there be any certain way the doctor can say you no longer have asthma?

Dr. John Chiu answered

No: Asthma is often a life-long disease in adults although about half of the kids diagnosed with asthma will 'out-grow' it by age 7 yrs. However if your lung function test has been normal and you have had no breathing problem for a long period of time, your asthma is considered to be in remission.
