Dr. Should Evaluate: There are many causes of diarrhea in young people. They include infection of the GI tract, inflammatory bowel disease (like crohn's and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome, and more. She should consider seeing a physician for a full history and physical to evaluate the problem.

Keeping food in: Is she under a great deal of stress? The possibilty of irritable bowel is raised her. Any chance that she could be abusing laxatives as a means of weight control. She needs to be completely honest about meds/stress other possibilities include over active thyroid. There are medications available for ibs. She might benefit from some blood work as well.
