3 yr old diet: Its very important to avoid sugary substances (juice, soda drinks). I would add more veggies and fruits (guava is really good to help firm up the stool). Snacks high in fiber.

Apples/bananas: I find apples (as sauce or wedges) and bananas have a stool firming effect.Apple juice and other fruit juices will loosen the stool.
