How are the bowel and urinary systems related? i often find that about 20 minutes after a bowel movement, i have a strong urge to urinate...why?

Bowels/bladder: Sometimes the presence of stool in the rectum will place pressure on the urethra acting to "hold" the urine - once it is relieved you may have the urge to void. They are two separate symptoms but emptying one may prompt the other system to "tell the brain" its time to empty the other one.
