It sees more: The 12 leads look at the heart from many different viewpoints, not just one. One of the 12 "standard" leads (called lead 1) is exactly what your polar is measuring. That said, there's a lot going on all over the heart that a single lead can miss. Try looking out a window through a toilet paper tube to illustrate. See how much could be going on up and down the street without you catching it?
