Maybe: If you have put on weight because you don't have enough thyroid hormone, then you should lose it once you replace the thyroid with synthroid (thyroxine).

Not if levels normal: If your thyroid hormone levels were normal prior to surgery and have been kept normal on synthroid, (thyroxine) then no, it will not cause weight loss. If you had your thyroid out for thyroid cancer and they are keeping your thyroid hormone levels high, then yes.
