Usually: Most hospitals have a protocol to check a pregnancy test on all women of childbearing age prior to surgery. You can ask at your hospital. However it is possible it wouldn't get done if the surgery is a serious emergency and must be done quickly.

Yes: Hcg levels routinely checked on women of child bearing age. However appendectomy is usually performed on an emergency basis. Appendicitis is a threat to both mother and fetus especially if it ruptures so surgery is indicated anyway.
