Thumb pain: You may be describing an injury to the middle or metacarpo-phalangeal (mcp) joint of the thumb. Injury to this joint is often in the form of injury to the supporting ligaments on either side, the ulnar and radial collateral ligaments. If this is in fact what you have, the joint needs to be assessed for stability and immobilized. If completely torn and/or not healing, surgery may be needed.
