A member asked:

My platelet count tends to be on the low normal side: 160 - 170. would taking a baby aspirin (family history ofalzheimer's and stroke) be a problem?

No: You still have more than enough platelets for the routine clotting you need to do, so taking a baby Aspirin with those platelet counts is not a problem.

No: Although your platelet count is low. It is low-normal. I would however, use a baby aspirin. Do not add Aspirin if you are currently taking other blood thinners (such as Plavix (clopidogrel) or coumadin) without consulting your primary physician.

Ask your doc: Specific decisions like this require someone knowing all about your history and your family history. Risks and benefits of treatment are very specific for each person.
