Tongue biting: He could have bit his tongue while he was sleeping and grinding his teeth. If he is concerned a out this or if it does not go away ina few day he should see a dentist.

See a dentist: It could be a canker sore, but anything unusual on the side of the tongue should be checked by a dentist.
