Sleep apnea: Tongue scalloping (marks of teeth on the borders) is a useful clinical indicator of sleep pathology and its presence should prompt the physician to inquire about snoring history and polysomnography test-sleep study. Clenching your teeth also a cause for the tongue scalloping.

Could be: Could be normal anatomy. Could be that it's been there for long time and you're just noticing it now. Could be a problem area. Only way to know is have tongue examined dentist or physician. Please make an appointment.
