Pain: External hemorrhoids are painful. These are hemorrhoids near nerves and you'll know you have them from pain and irritation. Painless hemorrhoids are usually internal but may prolapse and you notice them when cleaning. Either one can affect your life. If so see your doctor for a referral to a colo-rectal surgeon. Improve your quality of life.
