Asymmetry, bleeding: As with any surgery, infection and bleeding are possible. With breast augmentation, other factors also come into play including asymmetrical healing, tightening of the scar tissue around the implant (also known as capsular contracture), and dissatisfaction with the size chosen can also occur. All of these are relatively rare outcomes and overall, breast augmentation is safe and effective.

Breast augmentation: The most frequent complications with breast augmentation with the use of a breast implant are capsular contracture (or hardening of the scar tissue around the implant), visible and/or palpable rippling of the implant edges (more common in saline implants), and rupture or a break in the shell of the implant. These and other risks should be thoroughly reviewed with your plastic surgeon.

Contracture: Standard surgical risks such as bleeding, infection, scaring, and wound healing problems. Risks specific to breast implants include capsular contraction, implant malposition, and implant leak or rupture. Although any of these complications can occur, breast augmentation remains a very safe procedure and most patient are extremely happy with the results.
