A member asked:

Is it possible to tell if you will have decalcification when your braces are removed? nervous about getting them off tomorrow.

Yes: Decalcification areas occur around the brackets from not cleaning the plaque off your teeth during your braces. If you see no white areas you will be fine.

Decalcification: Decalcification is caused by bacteria converting sugars into acids which etch tooth enamel. If your oral hygiene was immaculate, and if you totally avoided foods that could partially dislodge braces and allow leakage behind the attachments, chances of damage are minimal. If you cheated, you raised risk of damage. Hopefully you cared for yourself properly during treatment.
