Workup: A thorough history, a complex physical exam, including musculoskeletal system, review of blood tests, x-ray reports. History of medication use to date. Also a thorough psych-emotional health questionnaire to begin with!

Multi-modal: For chronic pain, it depends on location or cause. Opiates, nsaids, other meds are used. May have nerve blocks or injections, spinal pumps or stimulators. Can get mental training also. See pain management doc for multi-modal approach.

Depends...: .......On what's causing the pain. The first step is to find out the reason why you have pain. There are many approaches, including neural therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, manual treatments (manipulation, massage, etc.), neurotransmitter therapy, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, etc.
