What do antibiotics do to fight bacteria?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Several ways...: Antibiotics "fight bacteria" in several different ways. Some antibiotics attack the cell wall / cell membrane of bacteria punching holes in the organisms, killing the bacteria. Others interfere with key enzymes within the bacteria making the bacteria unable to replicate. Each specific antibiotic functions in a unique way to structurally damage the bacteria or to stop them from reproducing.
