Usually no: Most likely the answer is no. Oral herpes and genital herpes are two different viruses. If your sexual partner has open herpetic lesions, abstain from sex until they are healed up. That is the best way to prevent spread of genital herpes.

Unlikely: But possible. It was thought that genital herpes was due to type 2, but with enlightened sexual practices we see infections of both types 1 & 2 occurring orally and on sexual organs. Generally lesions only occur in one place or the other, but can occur in both places. Once infected you have these viruses the rest of your life.
