Are you supposed to be diagnosed with depression without a blood test?

Maybe: Sometimes the cause of depression is clear...Sometimes it needs further investigation. Thyroid blood testing is the most relevant as far as depression is concerned, but there are others. Talk to your physician about it. If initial treatment is not working, then certainly further investigation into metabolic conditions should be done.

Depression: Depression is often diagnosed without blood work. However, blood work can be used to rule out organic causes for symptoms.
