Medical Depression: Yes, if it is caused by thyroid disease, hypo or hyperglycemia, anemia, vitamin d deficiency or hormonal imbalances. No if it is purely mental health related.

No blood test is available.: You are correct in that depression is diagnosed by taking the history of the patient's psychological and physical symptoms. We certainly wish we had a blood test but so far non- have been forthcoming. Years ago we thought that the Dexamethasone suppression test was going to help us and we spent many years ordering it. However, after over 1000 clinical studies it was declared that it was not a help in the diagnosis or the e prediction of any aspect of depression.Vielen dank für die sehr interessante frage.
