Can i ask for a certain anti depressant from the psychiatrist? instead of just being started off on prozac or celexa, could i ask for wellbutrin (bupropion)?

Yes But: Be aware that psichiatrist are very aware of medications and what works and does not work and may or may not be appropriate for you. Also, any other health issues you might have could mean the drug you think is correct is not what you need. Always take an active role in health care and explain why you feel wellbutrin (bupropion) is right for you over other options then listen to what the professional knows!

Ask for certain med: You certainly may ask for a specific treatment and express all questions and concerns about treatment. Your psychiatrist will then answer all questions and discuss all treatment options. S/he will make what s/he considers to be safe, effective, wise treatment recommendations in light of the complete assessment. Be honest and find a md with whom you can have a good working relationship.
