DBT and medication: Dialectical behavior therapy is the most widely used treatment for self harm. Often it is combined with medication to treat whatever other symptoms accompany this behavior. This form of therapy requires an active commitment on the part of the patient so that they can develop a useful understanding of the triggers and ways to manage the intense feelings that lead to these behaviors.
