Ankle sprain: Generally, a twisted ankle is another term for a "sprained ankle". This is either a rotation with the foot turned in or out and the leg turning with the foot or against it. The most common twist is when the foot turns in and "rolls" under the ankle where pain, swelling, and instability occurs on the outside of the ankle. Hope this answers your question.
