Lyme Ds Conumdrum: Lyme disease has become a very controversial topic given the concern for long term consequences associated w/the disease. The available testing varies in sensitivity & specificity. The most comprehensive & unbiased recommendations for this illness can be found on the infectious diseases society of america guidelines website. You should discuss these w/your doctor and plan an appropriate workup.

Depends: About 20-30% of people with lyme never test positive. Igenex is pricey but somewhat more reliable. There is also a new test called ispot lyme by pharmasan. I have had the ispot lyme come back positive when the WB did not. I do not rely on western blot for testing lyme. And if it is not lyme, it could be mold.
