A member asked:

How long should it take for augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) to start to reduce ear infection pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Otalgia: The pain may or may not be a direct effect of the infection itself. If the pain is due to inflammation this should recede fairly rapidly, assuming the causative organism is susceptible to augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). If, however, pain is due to congestion and consequent occlusion of the eustacian tubes this may require decongestants, irrigation, possibly steroids. Use the latter and then be patient. Good luck.
