what causes pain in left shoulder and ribs while lying on left side?

Strain: I cannot provide you with any final diagnosis based on the paucity of date provided, but rib/shoulder pain that is position dependent seems to be more consistent with some musculoskeletal issues such as strain, overuse, especially if there is history of it. If you are in doubt, better be seen as more serious things such as heart and/or abdominal issues may mimic the above.
