Swelling: It is hard to determine what it is without having a look at it. However, it sounds like you inadvertently bit on it. If that is the case, the black spots would be coagulated blood. Not a problem, it will go away in a few days. Just be careful and do not bite yourself again.

Did you bite cheek?: Did you bite your cheek? The dark spots can be a bruise from biting yourself and swelling is common when this happens. Because there is some swelling now it is easy to bite your cheek again so be careful when eating. Should heal in a few days. If it does not go away then get it checked.
