It is not uncommon: Non contrast cts of the abdomen and pelvis are most commonly used in the ec for patients with suspected kidney stones. This is also done in the outpatient setting. Patients may also not be given IV contrast due to poor kidney function or because of previous severe contrast reactions. Even without contrast much information can be obtained but contrast is preferred in most situations.
