When to rest: This is the very definition of when a doctor says rest.....It is time to let the arms recover. He must have time to heal and must have other activities to do before resuming his computer activities.

Wrist Pain: The initial response to repetitive type injuries, which this sounds like, is an assessment and likely moidification in us of the body part i.E in this case hand/wrist. Of course, beyond that there are ergonomic devices and solutions etc.. But the primary focus should be a re0evaluation of his computer use. Good luck.

Pain medication: Resting the wrist is the main stay. If it is really bad, anti inflammatory pain medication, like ibuprofen 200 mg, taken not more often than every four hours, may help. The downside could be that once the pain is gone, he will be back on the computer in no time and drag out the actual recovery of the wrist pain.
