Reflux : Chronic cough is often caused by reflux, acid from stomach coming up. Often it is silent and people do not feel it. When the acid get to the throat it gets on/ by the vocal cords causing a cough. Occasional the reflux is more acidic and people feel it. Another cause of chronic cough and throat pain is post nasal drop. Both reflux and post nasal drip are worse with sleep due to lying supine.
