Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, can cause this sensation as well as cough. Have the person seen by a doctor because this can be treated by medication. Staying upright for at least 30 minutes after eating is also helpful. A doctor can explore other causes of these symptoms as well so see a doctor ASAP! Good luck!
