Vaccination: If your your kid is at high risk for measles or is going to be traveling in an area where it is common, the measles vaccine, as part of the mmr, can be given as early as 6 months and should provide protection within 2-3 weeks. Research data supports a booster after 1 year and at 4-5 yr to maintain protection if it is given this early. Avoiding known exposure and good hadwashing are also important.
