Chickenpox: Shingles, also known a herpes zoster, is due to the transmission of chickenpox virus from inside your body to a discrete skin region (called a dermotome). It starts with pain and itch proceeding rapidly to skin lesions with vesicles and inflammation. Untreated, it can lead to post herpetic neuralgia, prolonged and painful. Good treatment is available and a zoster vaccination can be helpful.
