It is common, : Sleep paralysis is common and most people experience it at some point in their lives. Though there are various causes, in children it is often due to sleep deprivation. When over tired the various sleep centers in the brain are out of sync. Part of you is awake, but part of brain is still in rem sleep. During rem sleep we are "paralyzed" so we do not act out are dreams.
