A member asked:

Ritalin/adderal for recreational/study purposes? i've never been diagnosed with adhd. actually, i will got out and get tested to see if i have it. however, i was wondering if taking ritalin (methylphenidate) makes you better at studying/gym/concentration.

No, : No, it does not help if you have adhd, and it can be harmful. It is a stimulant, and can cause other issues such as palpitations in those who don't have adhd. It is best to just work on study techniques and avoid medications with side effects.

In general, no: Using a prescription stimulant recreationally (not prescribed for you) is illegal in us. There can be more harm than help if there is no diagnosis, other medications or drugs are used, or the wrong dose is used. Generally, if one doesn't have adhd, then the effect is minimal and about equivalent to caffeine. If one has adhd, the benficial effect can be considerable.
