For what reasons do we label anything that is new an "addiction"?

'Cause we're silly?: Especially pop culture, but all of society can be faddish and, frankly, silly about new things and also old things. It's unfortunate, but true. If i look at your ?, i can start my complaints with the word "label". Next our reaction to new things - both too + & too -. Then our misunderstanding of addiction. There, i've lashed out on "we" - i'm not sure if it helps, but it can feel good to do it.
