21 days, really?: That idea came from a 1970's self-help book. It would be nice to believe, but it can be much harder & take longer. Recovery from addiction is a process - ask any aa person - an addict is never "cured", but is in recovery. But, you can stop using or doing the object of your addiction right now. Tomorrow, the next day, etc. That's why they say one day at a time. Best wishes for recovery!
