Specialist resources: Dealing with the limits of our power to help someone we care about is about the most humbling aspect of empathy. In short, none of us can make anyone else intervene. However look for someone in your community who specializes in "interventions" to help guide you. Most treatment programs or 12-step meetings (particularly al-anon) are good places to look. Those folks will know the path you're on.

Addiction: Go to an al-anon meeting for support and guidance in how to intervene. Also consider being direct in a caring manner with the person you are concerned with and tell him how much you are worried about him or her and ask him to go for treatment. If he is resistant talk of attending an aa or na meeting. Best.
