Psychiatry help?: This will depend on the match between the you and the psychiatrist. Meeting what you need with what is offered. Do you want medication only, tms, psychotherapy (cbt, ipt, dbt, ifs), takes insurance/sliding scale/cash, group therapy or individual therapy, length of appointments, style, clinic environment, staff, time and communication between apts. Try to find a psychmd match with what you want.

Depends: It depends on whether or not you have a problem that you should be seeing a psychiatrist for in the first place. These days, the practice of psychiatry is typically about medication therapy. If you have a problem that could be talked out in therapy with someone, seeing a psychiatrist is overkill. If you have a problem that needs medication, seeing a talk therapist first is probably wasteful.
