Constipation: Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 ounces glasses of water per day). Try to get in 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day – get that fiber in. Avoid junk carbohydrates. Stay physically active if possible. There are a number of over the counter laxatives that can be taken orally to help pass retained fecal matter. If not improving see your physician for evaluation.

Varies: Some people have only one bowel movement a week, yet are not uncomfortable and for them this is quite normal. Other people feel very uncomfortable with bloating and passage of only small, hard stools from once a week to even less often than that. They are advised to avoid harsh laxatives and enemas, and instead drink adequate amounts of daily fluids, eat plenty of high fiber foods, stool softeners
