No pain but pressure: You will be given novocain (procaine) for the extraction. You will not feel pain when you are numb, but you may feel some pressure. Some dentists can use gas or sedation techniques. With these you will not feel, see or hear anything during the procedure. Talk to the dentist or surgeon about your options and your concerns. Always follow the post operative instructions that your dentist gives you.

Usually no: An extraction of a tooth is usually pain free, unless there is an infection in the area that would affect the local anesthesia from blocking all painful stimuli. You might feel pressure when the tooth comes out, but there should be no pain.
