How common is it for someone to react badly to anaesthetics?

Anesthesia safety: Due to modern drugs and advanced, continuous monitoring of the patient, it is rare for the patient to experience severe problems with an anesthetic. 1 in 50, 000 to 1 in 200, 000 patients develop severe problems or severe complications from anesthesia. Very safe!

Bad anesth reac: While most patients do well under anesthesia it is fairly common for patients to have an undesirable reaction of some sort to anesth. This could be a reaction to getting too much, a drop in blood pressure disturbances of the cardiovascular system, respiratory problems or an allergic reaction. For these reasons anesth should only be given by someone qualified and recovery rooms are used after.
