Very Few Know: With modern anesthetics we try and shut down the memory of the patient before they go to the or. Once they can't remember what happened, it is very hard to find out what they felt as they went to sleep. Without sedatives the very medication that is used to put people to sleep blocks memory formation, so we have the same problem. Some patient s have said that anesthesia is the best sleep.

Usually it is: Most patients are surprised that they were not aware of the passage of time under anesthesia. They say they remember getting the medication that puts them "under" (we call it "induction of anesthesia") and waking up. Some people are very anxious before anesthesia, perhaps because they are worried about the outcome of the surgery and anesthesia. We do our best to calm you and ensure your safety.
