I am overweight but dr keeps putting it down to diet and lack of exercise. could it be something other than that?

Overweight: The most likely cause is eating more calories than one burns. Often there are psychological reasons for this. Sometimes there are metabolic reasons. Your doctor should have insight into your dynamic . In any case controlling calorie intake and exercise is good for all of us.

Yes, but: Yes, it could be other things, but why not take the hard step of listening to your doctor? If you're concerned about being overweight, wouldn't it make sense to listen to your doctor first? Most people (this includes you) would benefit from diet and exercise. Just try it before trying to find that "magic pill".
