Yes but....: Achilles tendon ruptures take time to recover from. How much and what you can do depends on the result after surgery (if you have it) &/or how you've healed over time. Pt is absolutely necessary. Check with your ortho md for guidance and timing of activities. Slow and steady wins this race.

Yes, after healing: Allow your body to heal properly following this kind of injury. Make sure you also talk to you doctor about rehabilitation, possibly with physical therapy. Start slow when you do go back to activity.

Not fun: Achilles is a major tendon in the leg which plays important role in foot function. Ruptures are sometimes treated via cast immobilization and other times primary repair via surgery. Rehab can be couple of months.

Most commonly it: Is from a foreceful motion with a sudden change in direction which applies a torque to the tendon. Examples are a sudden change in direction when playing a sport such as tennis or basketball.

A few things...: Most people with ruptures experience pain, swelling and inability to flex the ankle in the direction of the sole of their foot. Some will see what appears to be a bruise at the site of the rupture. If you think you ruptured your achilles tendon i recommend you see an orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon.
