A 25-year-old female asked:

i have issues with bladder leaking when i sneeze , cough. could this be caused by having a catheter for 2 months when i was hospitalized?

Sure could: Having a catheter that long could cause some stenosis (stiffening) of your urethra and could cause some leaking. It's not so much your bladder leaking as it is the tube that comes out of the bladder. Talk to OB or urologist about various options to help with this problem. There are more helpful hints or treatments out there than you think!

I know nosebleeds are common during pregnancy, but yesterday I coughed up blood. Could this be something serious?

No: Superficial blood vessels during pregnancy are quite fragile. This along with the hormone changes of pregnancy make them more susceptible to spontaneous bleeding like nose bleeds and cough induced bleeding. Usually the bleeding is small in amount and subsides after pregnancy is over.

Inflammation: Inflammation in the lung triggers reflexes that cause cough. Also mucous caused by the inflammation does the same. The lungs are trying to clear the germs and debris.

Surgery: If one develops severe urianry incontinence after radical surgery and has failed conservative management and medications, then surgery is the next option. This includes collagen injection to help close the bladder opening or placement a sling underneath the urethra. A fianl measure would be to place an artificial (plastic) sphincter to close the urethral while not urinating.

I have a deep cough that hurts my chest. I have had bronchitis before should I be worried?

Possibly pneumonia: I have found that when people have a deep cough associated with pain on taking a deep breath they often times have pneumonia. You should be evaluated by a physician. If this has been a long-term problem then you definitely need to be evaluated as there are other causes.
